Why the AC cools poorly

An AC system naturally loses 10–15 % of its gas per year. If it has been 2+ years since the last recharge, it no longer cools properly and the compressor runs short of oil – a more expensive failure. If the gas disappears faster, there is a leak: we find it with UV dye or nitrogen and repair it before recharging – simply “topping up” is a waste of money.

What a recharge includes

Recovering and weighing the old gas, vacuum to remove moisture (30 min), leak test under vacuum, adding the exact amount of gas and compressor oil to the manufacturer's specification, checking pressures and vent temperature. The price depends on the gas type and amount: R134a €60–90, R1234yf (2017+ cars) €120–180.

Smelly AC

Mould growing on the evaporator causes a musty smell. We do an ultrasonic or foam disinfection and replace the cabin filter – the smell goes and the air is cleaner.

AC all year round

It is worth using the AC in winter too, to clear fogged windows – it keeps the compressor seals lubricated. We recommend a check once a year, in spring.

FAQ

AC recharge in Tallinn – frequently asked questions

How often should the AC be recharged?

Every 2–3 years, or as soon as the cooling weakens.

What is the difference between R134a and R1234yf?

R1234yf is the newer, more environmentally friendly gas used in 2017+ cars. It is roughly 2× more expensive, which is why a recharge costs €120–180.

Do you recharge without a leak test?

No – that would be a waste of money. A leak test is always part of the process.

How long does the job take?

Recharge 45–60 min. Leak finding and repair are agreed separately.
